An important aspect of the SVC role is to provide scrutiny and supportive challenge to policy makers and those providing services to the veterans’ community. Beginning in 2019, the SVC has published an annual electronic Progress Report tracking the progress made in implementing the Commissioner’s recommendations from his/her thematic reports. The electronic reports highlight successes as well as areas requiring more attention.
Since the office of SVC was established in 2014 the Commissioner has completed 9 thematic reviews resulting in a total of 81 recommendations, 63 made by the first Commissioner and a further 18 outcomes-focussed recommendations made by the second Commissioner. Future recommendations will all be outcomes-focussed.
The findings from the Commissioner’s latest assessment, carried out in September/October 2022, are reported below.
This is the fourth progress report covering all SVC recommendations and the ‘RAG’ status applied to each of them in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, based on factual updates provided by the Scottish Government.
